Romance filled adventure with action enhanced with the real historical figure of Lord Nelson!
By bookworm2bookworm
The above book blurb is quiet sufficient in giving you a glimpse of the story and rather than going into it again, I'd like to tell you why I think this story is worth your time and money.
What is very obvious in every book I've read so far from Ms. Harmon is that she respects her audience and gives them heroines that the said audience, and I suspect the author herself, can be proud of. Yes there are heroes aplenty in her stories, and mostly all Alpha males, yet when she writes her heroines I am all aflutter just reading about them! They are strong, willful and very astute, smart and witty females.
In `My Lady Pirate' she does it again by giving us a woman that is strong and stubborn; loving and passionate; a leader and a warrior.
What I liked and appreciated was Ms. Harmon's talent in creating a character that is NOT perfect and that engages my emotions. Maeve did that for me. She did things that many women do when confronted with men they fall in love with and don't want to admit that love. She tried very hard not to love him, even though the attraction was there. No matter how hard she tried to build obstacles between them and even tried to make herself hate him, in the end she'd come up short. That's what made her real to me. I loved her passion and I enjoyed watching her grow into the woman Grey helped her become.
Yes, on occasion I wanted to shake her, but I understood from where she was coming from. She basically grew on her own and once she hardened her heart, it took her forever to come to terms and accept the love that was being offered to her free of charge.
It also took a very special man, someone who saw and accepted her at face value and for what and who she was, to take a chance on her; to crumble that wall she meticulously built. Gray went all out when it came to making sure that every `brick' she put up, it would fall at his hand.
I adored him! He was such an honorable man and once he knew that he wanted her, there was nothing he wouldn't do to win her. No one, not even Maeve could stand in his way. He just plowed through all her defenses and kept telling her he loved her over and over again!!! She had no chance against his onslaught! He might have given up and on many occasions, but the man he was just couldn't do that. Not when he knew that the love he felt for this woman who was underneath all that `hard shell' needed him and his love! This was one of the best Alpha heroes I've ever read about! He was everything we women dream about! We want a hero that doesn't quit on us and is always persistent!
I would be remiss not to mention the secondary characters in this novel. They were a bunch of loving, mischievous and very entertaining characters. Aisling and Sorcha were so adorable, that every time they showed up I just kept chuckling. As for Lord Nelson, the hero of heroes, I can only say that Ms. Harmon made sure to bring him to me as not just some historical myth, but to actually make him human to me. I've come to know him as a man of great affection for his King and Country, his subordinates and his Emma. Through the novel you can tell that Ms. Harmon has great admiration for him and in a small but significant way to her, she paid him homage with this story. I liked that very much.
In the end, if you like adventure mixed with historical events and romance novels that are filled with action and yet populated with strong characters while enhanced with the real historical figure of Lord Nelson, you can't go wrong with this read. I highly recommend it and without reservation give it all of my five quills!
Danelle Harmon has written many books and I was just stunned that I never `came across' any of her books before! She has decided to reissue some of her past titles in e-form and I'm one of those people that is very glad she decided to do that.
Among her books she lately rereleased are her The de Montforte Brothers series [The Wild One; The Beloved One; The Defiant One and The Wicked One] and individual titles such as Wicked At Heart, Captain Of My Heart and My Lady Pirate. I really hope she does the same with the rest of her titles because I have come to admire her voice and style of telling a story.

I loved it.

Another beautifully written book by Danelle Harmon. For those who have read Captain of My Heart, this story is about Maeve, (the daughter of Capt. Brendan Jay Merrick and Mira Ashton) and Gray (a worthy hero in many ways). I love how Gray never gives up on Mauve (except for one crucial part but of course, he came to his senses). This is a romance story but also an adventure in the high seas. The fact that I actually read the various books in order helped me appreciate the stories more. Mira Ashton first appeared in The Beloved One, then her's & Brendan's story continues in Captain of My Heart, Maeve Merrick & Gray in My Lady Pirate and then she and her brother, Conner appears in Wicked at Heart (though the hero and heroine in this book is Damon deWolfe and Lady Gwyneth Evans Simms. As usual Danelle Harmon does not disappoint.

great job with history, repetitious relationship
By Booklady1
I do recommend this series and this book, which links the American Revolution with the Napoleonic Wars to the last. A good read despite my deducting two stars. A charismatic hero, very good character, meets supposedly hard fighting pirate lady, Mira and Brendan's daughter . A woman who can lead others and fight anyone succumbs (too) easily. Repetitive, silly arguments (takes after her mother) and sex bored me even though I really enjoyed the overall story, the hero and the imaginary interactions with Adm. Nelson. I did cry at the wedding. As in all the books in the series, the author awes me with her knowledge of ships of all types, how they are built, how they were and are sailed, all the lingo, the entire British fleet and their signals and their protocol. I don't usually like sequels, but having finished the series a bit out of order, I wish for more about the Merricks, the Lords, the Ashton's, the Falconers and the Black Wolfe and his bride.
